Abidjan Through Nabie’s Lens (Part II)

Scores of seasonal vendors line the streets of Adjamé, with wares on wheels

Welcome to Part II of my series on Abidjan. In my inaugural article, I explained why Abidjan is  still in my heart. The truth is, Abidjan’s exotic beaches, rolling hills, winding coastlines, thriving trading hubs, and clean crisp air are matchless. The memories and joy I experience when I am in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire’s main city) will always have a special place in my heart. In that article, I also provided a brief description of the Centre Artisanale de la Ville d’Abidjan. In case you missed Part I, I got you. Simply click the embedded link above and there you go….. Let’s now take a brief look at Abidjan’s main trading hot spot, Marché d’Adjamé, as well as the city’s infamous mall—the Abidjan Mall.

Marché d’Adjamé

Adjamé is also home to multiple textile retailers and wholesalers

In addition to being a bustling city, Abidjan is a spectacular shopper’s paradise. Put bluntly, craftsmanship and classiness reign supreme in this West African city. With an incredible variety of screamingly colorful textiles, handmade jewelries, attractive pottery, masks…. it’s just impossible to depart Abidjan  without diving into some of its sprawling markets, and high-end boutiques.

The city’s most popular shopping hot spot is locally known as le Marché d’Adjamé.  This centrally located shopping venue  is transforming the African retail experience.

Adjamé is home to a captivating collection of stores, goods on wheels, designer boutiques, fashion tailor shops, to mention only a few. Here, you will find provocative artwork, one-of-a-kind accessories that are unique to Africa. Locals and visitors are served with daily doses of blended goods, affording them a chance to find that perfect gift….be it the simplest kitchen utensil or a simple pair of wooden earrings. Unlike other parts of the city, Marché d’Adjamé is a one-stop shop for reasonably priced goodies.

Abidjan Mall

A relatively small, but very cute mall with a huge top-level playground for kids. Yes, an entire floor is dedicated to kids’ entertainment only. If you have kids, you might want to make it up there—bowling, skating and video games. The Mall can also boast of attractive department stores, upscale clothing boutiques, a decent food court, and so much more.

In addition to a massive play area for kids, there’s also a food court where some yummy-in-my-tummy ice cream can be found to refuel  your little one(s).
